Story Nights starting up in June

Story Night is coming back! Pre-pandemic, I did backyard performances for friends, neighbors, and people wandering in off the street. In 2020, it felt too dangerous. In 2021, I still was working on building a fence, because I thought I might get a dog (got a cat instead).

TL;DR:

Who? All ages. Really.

When? Sunday evenings from June 12 to July 24 (and possibly longer), at 6:30 p.m.

Where? 415 Elm St., Lawrence KS. Look for the red sandwich sign on the driveway. If I have to cancel, I’ll put it in my website calendar.

How much? It’s free. I put a tip jar out, and am very thankful for anything put in it, but it is NOT required. Just come.

If it’s raining, stay home and tell each other stories.

Here’s the deal: I provide stories and a few seats. Listeners bring chairs, blankets, snacks and drinks for themselves, and bug spray. Here in North Lawrence, we don’t have chiggers, but manoman, we have mosquitoes. BRING BUG SPRAY! Mosquitoes don’t bother me, so I don’t always have the right kind on hand.

We also have trains. I live a short block from the tracks, and freight trains pass frequently. Some are loud. We wait, and continue on with the stories when it’s quieter.

I expect everyone will act their ages. Kids act like kids, no surprise! Some kids wander around. Some have things to say. Some curl up on a lap. Some wear pajamas. Some wear costumes. We may or may not have a kid open-mic at the end of storytime.

Liability blablabla: watch out for your own kids. The yard is pretty safe, and I’ll try to get rid of that big pile of leftover fence material before we have our first night. Please don’t sue me.

Feel free to spread the word!
